Mr Mojito wins

Mr Mojito continued his preparation for the Perth Inter-Dominion series in November when winning at Melton in Victoria on Friday night for trainer-driver Kerryn Manning. Formerly prepared by top Kiwi trainers Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen, he led easily and held on strongly to win by two metres in 2:39.8 for the 2240m (mobile) with the last 800m in 55.5sec, rating 1:54.8. Meanwhile, Inter-Dom third favourite Chicago Bull ran fourth fresh-up over 2130m on Friday night at Gloucester Park, fighting on after being left parked at the 500m for Perth driver Gary Hall Jnr. It was his first defeat in seven starts.

Everything brave

Former Cambridge-trained pacer Everything ran a brave third at his Australian debut at Menangle on Saturday night over 1609m (mobile). The six-year-old Sands A Flyin gelding was a star of the northern grass-track circuit last summer for trainer Nicky Chilcott and a big band of owners, and was sent out a warm $2.10 favourite on debut for Sydney trainer Kevin Pizzuto. Fresh after a six-week break, he scorched to the lead from his wide draw in 26.5sec for the first 400m, but was narrowly run down in the straight, the NZ-bred winner Our Leonardo clocking 1:53.5, the last 800m in 56.8.
